White Family
History
The White family can trace their ancestors back to the ancient territories of scotland between the 11th and 12th centuries. The Whites can trace their roots back to norman orgin, and first appeared in the medieval records of Durham.
The White family from very early on not only held lands and estates in Scotland but were also actively allied with other influential families. They also branched out into other territiries and holdings, before moving into Ireland and England.
The name White in Ireland was brought to the country by settlers in the 14th century. The Galic form of the name is 'de Faoite', although the use of the words 'ban' and 'geal' that both translate as 'White', has led to a number of Anglicized versions of this name including, Ban, Baun, Kilbane, Bannane, and even Galligan. The name is now among the fifty most frequently found in Ireland.
In Ireland the White family held lands and was very well respected amoung the other clans. They were known to be a military family and were always willing to go to the aid of the other clans in a time of need.
In England the family held lands and castles and again was known as a military family ready to serve the Crown or other families in a time of need.
When taking the long voyage to the New World they brought with them wealth and knowledge of government operations.
